Heathrow Airport's newly completed refurbishment and extension of Terminal 4 significantly changes the feel of the dated building. The full height entrance area beckons into the terminal and the high level spun aluminium discs, supplied by SAS International, creates an open feel to the area.

The 1800 x 1100mm raft panels engineered with bullnose edges provide the illusions of continuous ceilings over the check in desks. Both systems were developed in conjunction with SAS and comply with the design brief that all of the ceiling panels should hinge down in such a way as to allow access into the void for a designated scissor lift.

The full length media wall was formed with exceptionally large micro perforated metal panels with expressed joint details and house banks of swirl diffusers, the design development was further complicated by the requirement for bomb blast resistant cables attached to each panel and disk.

Over the check in desks the vast sloping bulkhead stretches from one end of the terminal to the other closing off the ceiling void and deflecting the light into the terminal.
