Salford Community Centre in Shelmerdine Gardens was a new build project. Alco Beldan worked with architects Howard Fairbairn & Partners from very early on to ensure design quality throughout the project.
The requirements were to have flexible separation between the central oval private hall and other zones of the building.
Alco Beldan supplied and installed its ASL65 HSW system in beech timber, which accommodates the right facet type between the panels to enable the wall to curve.
This system consisted of 12 sliding panels and six matching fixed panels. The 12 panels spanned just under 12m. Each panel is approximately 2.68m high and double glazed to help with the acoustics of the open space.
The 12 sliding panels separate the private hall from the cafe on the south side, and these are designed to stack into a small storage cupboard on the east edge of the building to enable the south end of the hall to be completely open. The fixed panels installed at the north west, separate the private hall from the entrance lobby.
The installation was completed in August 2009 for Thomas Winstanley & Son Ltd.
