Fitzrovia 3 is the third phase of a large new build project for client Arup.

Baker Stickland designed and engineered the ceilings to fulfil a design brief from architects Morey Smith. The ceilings were installed in each of the three project phases and also in Arup?s Watford offices.

Two types of special ceiling panels were designed specifically for the client, each with its own bespoke suspension system. Both ceiling systems are very individual and visually dramatic, with imagery so strong that Arup?s have adopted them as part of its corporate identity.

Each system provided complete hinge down access to the mechanical and electrical services above them and were designed to provide a simple, lightweight and safe system of hinging down.

The perforated galvanised ceiling system consisted of panels manufactured from lacquered spangled galvanised sheet with a large perforation pattern which can appear, under certain conditions, almost translucent. The non-perforate white panels were manufactured from a composite aluminium sheet and were very large at 1990x1200mm but show none of the usual large panel tendency to ?quilt?. They are completely flat, and very light making the service access simple.
