The works involved the fit-out of a new build shell to create a new public library - hailed as one of the most exciting and innovative libraries in the UK.
The project included the installation of M&E services (stand alone system) including water installation, heat source boiler and pump, air conditioning, prelims/testing and commissioning, LV distribution, lighting, small power, earthing, power supply to mechanical plant, power supply to lift installation and BMS.
All internal fixtures and wall, floor and ceiling finishes were carried out by the Patton team, as well as the erection of non-structural partitions and the installation of passenger lifts and balustrades to mezzanine floor.
The internal walls are fire rated and acoustic plasterboard, on a metal stud partition system and two layers of soundbloc on both sides and GRG cladding to columns. Wall tiling including bedding, grouting, movement joints, trims etc to toilets and splashbacks were also included in the contract.
Levelling screed was used to make up level for floor finishes inclusive of movement joints, compressible filler around edges, trowel finish etc. Five different floor finishes were used.
The staircases/ balustrade involved steel construction, aluminium treads/ risers, inlaid carpet to treads and inlaid rubber to nosings. Steel handrails and glazed balustrade by D-Line were utilised as well as glazed balustrades to mezzanine edge using structural glass.
The installation of aluminium feature cladding to mezzanine floor edge was carried out by a specialist contractor.
