This contract was carried out in conjunction with Wates Construction to redevelop and refurbish the former Lewis department store, an iconic Leeds landmark, converting it to a high-specification office.

As partners with Wates, John Atkinson Interiors won this contract to install ceilings and build bulkheads via a series of negotiations, including assisting in the creation of the specifications.

The works consisted of the design and construction of plasterboard rooflight linings, feature bulkheads and light troughs as well as several thousand square metres of Armstrong Orcal ceiling tiles and grid.

The project threw up many challenges, including new floors being added to the existing 1930s building, working within the old parts of the building, to a tight programme and on a very busy city centre site. The contract was completed on time and within budget to the clients and Wates complete satisfaction.
