A unique contract carried out within Huddersfield Universitys £15 million new Creative Arts Building, built on its town centre Queensgate campus.
The SRIF (Sound Research Institute Funded) Room is an acoustic laboratory, the first of its kind in England, which allows musicians to experiment with sound.
John Atkinson Interiors worked with acoustic specialists, SRL Ltd, BAM Construction and the client to ascertain the specifications which would meet the critically important reverberation times creating an anechoic chamber. The materials specified involved a combination of EPS Skyline diffusers, open cell melamine acoustic foam wedges and Ecophon wall panels.
On site challenges included the integration of the entry door and maintaining access to services within the room without compromising the acoustic balance.
