This project was for the internal fit-out of a stunning new rail station to serve Heathrow Airport's new Terminal 5.
Work commenced with the supply and installation of eight metre high, two-hour fire rated Knauf Drywall partitions to the platforms. As well as providing fire protection these partitions also had to withstand a wind loading of up to 500 pascals imposed by train movement through the station and the forced air ventilation system. The design also had to be durable enough to allow the support of a bespoke stone cladding system designed and installed by PAN.
PAN Interiors worked closely alongside the project architect, HOK, and the Knauf design team to ensure compliance with all the required technical criteria and develop a solution for the installation of the wall hung stone cladding system via the use of a full 3D model of the Rail Box. The stone, a 20mm thick conglomerate marble weighing in excess of 48kg/m2 was installed onto a bespoke aluminium frame system which had to be adapted to suit the site location, system weight and loading conditions.
As well as over 11,000m2 of partitions, other specialist works undertaken within the contract included Promat Durasteel fire rated blast partitions, walk on ceilings constructed using Knauf SBS framing and stainless steel / glass ticket booths.
